Ellistown Womens FC 2014-2015
14th August 2015
I am a keen footballer, playing for over 20 years! The last few seasons have been the most successful of my playing days and I thought I would share some photos of the recent achievements of Ellistown Womens FC.
This season was our best yet, finishing fourth in the East Midlands Women’s Premier Division. We were on track for an even better finish but we lost two key players to severe knee injuries meaning we played some league games with just nine or ten. The effect of playing without a full team was clear to see, playing one league game on a Wednesday night with ten players against top of the league Peterborough FC and losing 7-1, then playing the same team on the Sunday, four days later with a full team and winning 1-0. It was a shame but we hope to attract some new players this season and hopefully challenge for the title.
This season still brought us success, reaching the League Plate final and running out 4-2 winners against Cleethorpes Town to lift the trophy. It wasn’t the most fiercely contested final but we were deserved winners and it was a nice reward at the end of a long season. Being a centre half I’m not a regular on the score sheet but I went up for a corner and managed to get our fourth goal of the game with a header that I was pleased the photographer managed to capture!
It was a wonderful occasion for us all with lots of support from the sidelines. I was lucky enough to have my family there, my husband, dad, step mum, sister, brother in law, niece, and a few friends all came along to support me and I got the biggest cheer of the game when my goal went in.
We are only amateurs of course but we all put a lot of dedication into training Wednesday evenings and playing on Sundays come wind, rain or shine, on top of full time jobs and other commitments that make life so busy. Moments like this make it all worthwhile.
