Looking Forward
22nd January 2016
I must first apologise for my tardiness in writing a blog, I’ve been working for Floors of Stone for over four months now and while my colleague Molly, who started around the same time as myself, has been very active on the blog side of things and already written three, I have yet to make an entry. So here goes, my job title is bookkeeper, which means I’ll rarely be found answering the phone to customers, what’s much more likely is that I’ll be inputting invoices in to Sage or completing sales receipts. I focus more on the admin side of things than actually selling like most of my colleagues. It may sound quite tedious, inputting data and working with figures all day, but I really enjoy it, and I certainly feel I made the right choice coming to work here.
It’s not just the job that I feel has vindicated my decision to start working here, it’s also my colleagues. Everyone was so helpful when I first started, and made me feel really welcome. I’ve found that we all have a lot in common and everyone gets on brilliantly, and when you spend eight and a half hours a day, five days a week together, it cannot be underestimated how important that is. Also the wonderful surroundings we are fortunate to work in add to the enjoyment of the job. As I sit here now, I can look beyond my computer screen out the window and see a family of swans making their daily waddle around the mill, passing the wooden cart that the chickens, peacocks and guinea fowl enjoy exploring.
Without going into too much detail, Floors of Stone, since it started trading in 2008, has grown year on year, and again in 2015 we have hit many of the targets we set ourselves. Despite this, we never look to rest on our laurels, and we’re always looking to improve the way we do things. I’ve seen this first hand with the new online system. It was introduced in August this year, and it really has added another dimension to the company. It allows customers to find the stone they want on the website and purchase there and then, which for the fast-paced world we live in, works wonderfully well.
Another area we’re looking to grow is our product range. Despite already having an extensive and varied range on offer, we’ve recently added to it again with the Dove Grey Tumbled Limestone and the Bianco Carrara Honed Marble. We will always look to keep improving every area of the company possible, and I’m excited to be a part of it moving in to 2016. Happy (belated!) New Year!
